Russet Boathouse

Mountlake · shed 4

Boats sleep here from the first frost until the ice leaves the bay.

We keep a short row of racks inside a pine shed, a stove that actually draws, and a bench for varnish and small repairs. The yard is quiet on purpose.

A low timber shed beside a grey lake, with two boats under the eaves.
The shed faces west. In January the light lasts about six hours.

What we store

  • Rowboats and canoes under 5 metres
  • Oars, thwarts, and a spare rudder if it is labelled
  • One winter cover per boat, folded, not stuffed wet

Season

Racks open the week after the last club race, usually late October. Launch weekend is the first Saturday the bay is clear, posted on the shed door and on this page.
